Detection & Control of Flammable Substances

The course will stress the importance of function testing (bump testing) before operating any gas monitor. Students are led through a typical function test and learn what to look for when function testing which includes:

  • Use/function/limitations       
  • Multi/single head             
  • Personal monitors               
  • LEL’S
  • Electronic monitors                
  • Pump/bellows style         
  • Function/bump tests           
  • Gas detection theory

Course Objectives

  • Upon completion of this course, the students will:
  • Understand how to prevent injuries, fatalities and property damage due to exposure to flammable substance by properly informing workers to be aware of the different dangers in the workplace
  • Be aware of the characteristics of flammable liquids, gases, and vapours.
  • Obtain basic knowledge and skills in order to protect themselves and others from exposure to toxic/flammable substances.

To ensure the information discussed in this course is understood and retained, all students will participate in practical exercises.
