The Canadian Red Cross Advanced First Aid (AFA) is a 2-week training course that provides comprehensive training in emergency medical response, patient assessment, and advanced first aid care for workplace and emergency situations.

This course combines theory, practical skill development, and realistic scenario training to prepare participants to respond confidently to serious injuries and medical emergencies until advanced medical care is available. Training meets applicable workplace and industry first aid requirements and emphasizes hands-on learning and teamwork.

  • Workplace first aid attendants or medics
  • Industrial, construction, oilfield, forestry, and mining personnel
  • EMS emergency response team members
  • Safety coordinators and supervisors
  • Individuals working in remote or high-risk environments
  • Anyone requiring advanced first aid certification for employment or regulatory compliance

PLEASE NOTE: A VALID INTERMEDIATE/STANDARD FIRST AID CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED AS A PRE-REQUISITE FOR THIS TRAINING COURSE.

If you require this training, TriTech Safety offers first aid courses 7-days a week. To obtain your Intermediate/Standard level certification, you have three options:

  • The full 2-day course
  • A 1-day recertification course (if your current certificate has yet to expire)
  • The blended online option (6 hours online + 1-day in-class)

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Airway management and respiratory emergences
  • Circulatory emergencies
  • Shock
  • Hemorrhage and soft tissue trauma
  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Acute and chronic illnesses
  • Poisoning
  • Environmental illnesses
  • Pregnancy, labour and delivery
  • Special populations & crisis intervention
  • Reaching, lifting, extricating, and transporting patients
  • Multiple-casualty incidents
  • Pharmacology
  • Marine environments

Completion

Upon successful completion, students will have the ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate all required skills; 100% attendance and participation; 75% min. passing grade on a written, closed book knowledge evaluation; and adherence to the Fundamental Principles.
