Light Duty Crane Offsite Training Course

Upon the completion of this course, participants will understand the design and limitations of light duty crane (also includes boom-trucks or utility cranes), how to conduct pre-use and post-use inspections, and the basics of safe operation. The hoisting component of this course includes information regarding calculations, charting and ratings.

This course is valid for equipment that does not fall under the provincial apprenticeship program for Cranes & Hoisting Equipment Operators. Generally, this includes: Mobile Cranes less that 15 tons, Boom-trucks less than 5 tons, Articulated booms less than 7.8 tons.

NOTE: At this time, this course is only offered as an offsite training – at your location, with your equipment. We can offer this training to your group for a minimum charge of 6 participants.

The duration of this course is dependent on the number of participants: 1-4 people (1 day) and 4-8 people (2 days). The minimum charge for this course is still 6 participants.

TOPICS INCLUDE

  • Fundamentals of operation – light duty crane & book trucks
  • Inspections: pre-use and post-use
  • Load weight calculations
  • Sling angle and hardware calculations
  • Safe handling of loads
  • Hand signals
  • Rigging Equipment: use, care, inspection & storage
  • Rigging charts and ratings
  • Set up and lifting procedures
  • Maintenance and equipment requirements

This course includes a practical component where students complete a pre-use inspection checklist and then demonstrate safe operation of the equipment.

IMPORTANT:

Steel toe/work boots are required. Full PPE is suggested. Please dress for the weather, as the practical portion of this course will likely take place outdoors. 

Completion

Upon successful completion of practical components and the written exam (with a minimum score of 70%), you will receive a temporary Certificate of Completion. The permanent certification will be mailed to your employer within 30-days of completion.
