Overhead Crane & Rigging

This course provides training that will enable workers to use overhead cranes safely and reduce the frequency and severity of overhead crane related incidents. Also covered are Shop Hoisting Equipment and Safety Checks in which students are taught the basic engineering design requirement for overhead cranes, particularly for bridge and jib cranes. Certification standards, crane components, capacity ratings, and how to find more information about cranes (regulations, crane documentation, log books, and maintenance records) are also discussed. In our introduction to rigging, the student is presented with different types of hitches. Participants also learn how to calculate the weight of an object, read a load chart, and choose rigging based on the load. In the Planning and Lifting Execution portion of the course, students discuss safety conditions for moving a load.
